The Tudor Laundry Reveal

Updated: May 31, 2022

For being a mere 8' x 5.5' this small space packs a punch. Combining inspiration from English kitchens from the likes of deVol and Humphrey Munson we designed a laundry room full of unique storage solutions while also creating a space you actually want to do laundry in. This space was part of a three room addition to this home. The new addition included redesigning the existing powder bath and adding on enough square footage to create a separate mudroom and laundry room. While working with the architect we choose a larger window, flipped the wall the washer and dryer were originally noted on, and added a pocket door in lieu of a traditional door to maximize as much square footage for additional cabinetry.

Original Mood Board

For the design of this laundry room we incorporated slate tile laid in a herringbone pattern with bone colored grout. The mid-tone grout color allows the pattern to shine while also helping to conceal dirt as this floor was used throughout the mudroom, laundry, and powder bath.

By wrapping the perimeter in tongue and groove we were able to inset shaker pegs above to provide extra drying space for delicate clothing on laundry days as well snow gear in the winter and umbrellas in the spring/summer. This was a storage saving solution that provided extra interest in the room.

We love every detail of this space, but if we had to choose it'd be the open cabinetry with the curved corbel underneath. The open cabinets provided a break from the rest of the closed cabinetry and bulky appliances and allowed the homeowner to showcase their favorite vintage finds.
