The Tudor Mudroom Reveal

Welcome to the reveal of the Tudor home mudroom renovation. Like the laundry room this space did not exist prior to the remodel and was an area the homeowner's were incredibly excited for. While there's a walkway next to the space the actual mudroom is 6'x6' and it goes to show how a great design plan can really make use of even the smallest of spaces.

We went through many iterations for storage in here that included options for both open and closed storage and ultimately went with a mix of both. The homeowner's knew their kiddos and that an open hook area would quickly be overflowing with everything from backpacks to soccer balls. So instead we opted for closed locker storage - one for each kiddo and one for the parents to share. In each locker we put multiple hooks so hats, coats, and backpacks all had a place. Below each locker we incorporated open shoe storage and above the locker a small cabinet for off season items. This works great for coats and gloves in the winter and a place to store school items in the summer.

For the design of the room we incorporated a beautiful blue-green paint color, a stunning piece of white oak on the bench, herringbone flooring, an indoor/outdoor rug, and gave the space a bit of privacy by incorporating a cafe curtain with a floral pattern that mimics the dogwood that blooms outside the window in the spring.

Our favorite detail in here is the vent detailing on the locker cabinets. While darling they're also functional - you never know when a wet raincoat or a sweaty soccer jersey might get left in there. We repeated this detail under the far left drawer on the bench. This time the purpose was to avoid needing to put in a metal HVAC vent and turned out to be the prettiest alternative.

One last reveal in here. There was a small open area in the plans just behind this area where the architect had drawn in a coat closet. While the space would have been nice, it felt repetitive. What was really needed was an extra pantry as this space is just outside the kitchen, so that's just what we added. We maximized the small area by taking it floor to ceiling and adding in a mix of drawers and cabinet doors. We also repeated the paint color and brass hardware to keep the space feeling cohesive with the rest of the room.
